3rd Annual DOGSDFW Polar Plunge Pre-Registration is now OPEN!!!!!

IT’S BACK!!!!! The DOGSDFW Polar Plunge is shaping up to be a truly polar experience.

Our host location, Paradise 4 Paws, is a premier resort for cats & dogs. We will have access to their expansive indoor play areas of indoor grass, soft rubber, and even a bone-shaped splashing pool. We want this to be a memorable event, so we chose a unique location; but why stop there??? We put in a few calls, and eventually were able to reach the North Pole……..after checking the list (twice), Santa decided that all the nice little boy & girl DOGSDFW pack members needed a visit from jolly St. Nick himself. Within the location, we will be setting up holiday photos for you pups, with Santa, or your own personalized family holiday photo. 😉 Our friends at S.A.Y. Cheese Photography will be offering 5 photos for $10, and each participant will automatically get one photo posted to our Facebook page.
In addition, we will have goodie bags (for all), and some other raffle items up for grabs.

But wait……there’s more (we always wanted to say that); we will also be including a bandana for all puppy participants.

For $15, you will get one bandana, entry for up to 2 dogs (ie – up to 2 hours of playtime), a photo with Santa, a goodie bag, and a chance to win some raffle prizes. An additional dog ticket may be purchased for a 3rd dog (for $5), per enterant. What are you waiting for??? Sign up today!!!! Tell all your friends!!!

Fireworks Can Be Scary

Fireworks can be very scary for dogs. They can find the loud, unpredictable noise and bright displays of light truly frightening. Here are a few things to consider, to assist your pack through the festivities.

1. Desensitize Your Dog to the Sound of Fireworks:

– play a video or recording of fireworks. Start with the sound on low, and increase on subsequent playbacks. If your pup becomes agitated, turn the volume down and gradually start over. Repeat as necessary.

– try playing the recoding during activities your dog enjoys, such as treats, cuddle time, play time, etc.

2. Ease Their Fears:

– don’t change your behavior. Petting more than usual, cuddling, baby talk just reinforces the dog’s fearful behavior.

– try not to react to the fireworks. Your body language can tell a dog there is reason to be afraid.

– turn on the television or radio, to drown out the sound of the fireworks. If weather permits, a fan or AC unit can help too.

– if your pup needs to hide in his crate or under a bed, let them be. This is their comfort zone, so do not feel the need to remove them and make them more fearful. A fearful dog is more likely to bite, out of desperation to get away.

3. Dealing with a Severe Fear of Fireworks:

– talk to your veterinarian, as medication may be needed for anti-anxiety.

– work with a trainer or behaviorist, for future firework seasons, to help ease your pups through the stressful time.

Another Day on the Trails

Summary: We will be celebrating our third year opening event at Arbor Hills Nature Preserve. The Arbor Hills Nature Preserve is a great 200 acre park located at Midway and Parker Rd. in west Plano. The park is managed by the City of Plano and offers natural hiking trails, mountain biking trails, and paved trails for walking or cycling. The park has excellent amenities with lots of parking, nice restrooms, and three covered pavilions with picnic tables. We will take the dogs on a leisurely hike of one of the many available trails. Depending on the dogs, owners and group size, will depend which trail we embark on.

Hopefully we can get get a few people willing to spend a lazy Sunday, out socializing and enjoying our furkids.

WE WILL MEET BY THE RESTROOMS (near the parking lot). We recommend good walking shoes, warm clothes (dressing in layers recommended) and water (for you and your kids).

Hiking for Hunger

Dogs Out Getting Social wants to put our Paws to a Cause.

With “Pack Pride”, we are proud to unveil our first “Hike for Hunger” hoodie (5 colors to choose from). During the month of December, we will be collecting food and cash donations for the North Texas Pet Food Pantry, during our DOGSDFW events. We also welcome any donations for the North Texas Food Bank. Check out: www.teespring.com/hikedogsdfw

Many people struggle to keep food on the table, let alone in their dog/cat/fish/etc bowls…….so your help is greatly appreciated. To commemorate our first year of “Hiking for Hunger”, we created this design.

With the sale of every hoodie, DOGSDFW will donate 10% of the profit to the North Texas Pet Food Pantry. If we sell 20 hoodies, we will donate 20%, 30 hoodies sold for a 30 % donation……..if you follow the logic, we will donate 100% of the profits if we can sell 100 hoodies.

Show your “Pack Pride” and share this item with all those animal lovers, and lets raise some funds for those in need.

Order today and do not delay.

WE WANT TO HEAR FROM YOU!!!!!!

We are looking for places to hike as a pack, and would love your feedback. We have 4-5 places in mind, but would love suggestions, or places you’ve experienced. We have a special project we are planning, and these hiking areas will play a pivotal role. So comment below and share your thoughts……..

PS – Feel free to share this far and wide, as we are looking for places within (or near) the DFW Metroplex. Feel free to e-mail us at: events@dogsdfw.com
